Wild Planet Wild Albacore Tuna

Wild Planet FoodsNorth Pacific Ocean

Wild Planet sources albacore tuna from small-boat, troll-caught fisheries in the North Pacific. The fish are younger and smaller than those caught by industrial longline — which means lower mercury and a shorter supply chain. Packed without added water or broth: just tuna and sea salt. What the label says is what is in the can.

GFA Evaluation

How this product scored against the Good Food Standard

Good

Ingredients: albacore tuna, sea salt. No water, no vegetable broth, no fillers. Naturally higher in omega-3 than skipjack. The single-cook-in-can method retains nutrients that drain away when fish are pre-cooked and then packed in added liquid.

Clean

Troll and pole-and-line caught. Bycatch is negligible with these methods. Wild Planet publishes its sourcing fisheries by species. No FAD (fish aggregating device) fishing.

Fair

California-based company with third-party audited supply chain standards. Small-boat fishing fleets are supported rather than displaced by industrial operations.

True

Species is declared as albacore — not sold generically as 'white tuna' or 'premium tuna', labelling practices that obscure species identity and make meaningful comparison impossible.
