GFA Evaluation
Pinto-family heirloom, the founding variety of Rancho Gordo (introduced 2001). Distinguished by a rich, dark bean broth with documented sensory notes of chocolate and coffee — the result of the variety's distinct polyphenol composition, not added flavourings.

Rio Zape seed was sourced from Hopi farming communities. Rancho Gordo acknowledges the Indigenous origin of the variety in published company history and product descriptions.
Flavour notes (chocolate, coffee) are derived from the bean's polyphenol and amino acid composition — not added ingredients. Pinto-family classification is botanical. The company's acknowledgement of Hopi origin is published but no formal benefit-sharing arrangement with the Hopi Nation is publicly documented.
